Children's Ministry

The children of The Wood Green Parish hold a central place in the life and missional work we undertake in the name of Our Lord. Both in and out of our worship we try to find ways of giving them a space they can call home.

St Michael's Followers

Discover, Create, Play and Grow!

St Michael’s Followers is a fun, inclusive space where children between the ages of 5-11 explore the Gospel reading appointed for that Sunday. Not only do they learn about who Jesus is and explore what it means to follow him, but through games, creative crafts, storytelling and activities, children bring the Bible to life, grow in faith alongside each other and discover just how much God loves them.

Inspired by the example of St Michael, we encourage children to be courageous in faith, stand up for what is right, care for others and trust in God’s strength and protection. Just as St Michael reminds us of the importance of choosing good and standing firm in faith, we help the younger members of our worshipping community discover how to live out Jesus’ teachings outside of the church.

Come and join us! All children between the ages of 5 and 11 are welcome to become join St Michael’s Followers. We meet in the Raphael Centre, located behind the St Michaels Church. Please speak to one of the sides person or the clergy if you are unsure where to go. If you would like to know more about our provision for the younger members of our community, please feel free to speak to our Children’s Champion and St Michael’s Followers Leader, Vanessa.

St Michael-at-Bowes Sunday School

At St Michael-at-Bowes we support the younger members of our community through Godly Play. These sessions are aimed at primary school aged children and offered most Sundays during term time. This takes place during the Mass, once the gospel has been read, in the church hall with two adults- the storyteller and doorkeeper – present. Godly play is explores a child’s intuitive sense of God’s presence. It uses and teaches a Christian framework as a means of structuring their spiritual formation. In Godly play a story is shared with open questions. Most stories are from the Bible or about a liturgical action. We wonder together, with space for children to develop their personal response. We often share a feast. The structure of sessions mirrors the main church service and prepares children to participate in worship. Sessions are designed to help children explore and develop an understanding of God and fellowship with each other. Encouraging this spiritual growth and providing a non- judgmental space to ponder questions together, helps us apply Jesus’ teachings to our lives.

All primary aged children are welcome to explore with us as we come to know Jesus more, and discover how God is already at work within them!
