The gospel according to Matthew
(read on most Sundays during
Year A of the cycle of readings)
presents Jesus as solemn, priestly - the Lord.
Before him, we prostrate
ourselves.
Hs deeds and words show that he is the Son of God,
having authority and testament.
As Master and Teacher, he brings the old law
to
its fulfilment
in the New Covenant.
He will come again on the clouds of heaven to judge the
living
and the dead - but in the very present he is EMMANUEL GOD-WITH-US
for all those who accept his word and put it into practice.
